A man has been shot and multiple people, including a nine-month-old baby, have reportedly been stabbed in an incident that sparked panic at a Sydney shopping centre.
New South Wales Ambulance told news agency AFP that the man was shot dead by police and was believed to be an attacker.
Crowds could be seen fleeing the Westfield complex at Bondi junction and witnesses said people hid inside stores until the police could evacuated them.
Australian authorities have urged people to avoid the area.
